140 X 140 cm   .   acryilic, ribbon, beads, glitter, tissue paper, newsprint, and tree bark on wood   .   (2026)

To help relieve the summer’s depressing news, we visited a beautiful sunflower field, acres of varieties in bloom. Their patterns and colors assuaged my hopelessness, and it occurred to me that others may want to experience this appreciation of natural beauty. To highlight the contrast, I painted those sunflowers onto newspaper articles about current issues attacking our individual truths and freedoms, such as ICE detention, transgender rights, unfettered data center construction, etc. I then cut up found tree bark to frame the finished paintings, a reminder that nature surrounds and will outlive all of us, a thought that keeps me going.
